I'M GOING DOWN

Vampire Weekend my friends just released an amazing mini-album on iTunes and since it's been a long long time since I posted something by the band, I've decided to go with this. It's a cover of Bruce Springsteen (pause for reaction) but it's really everything I love about the band to begin with. I'll be posting more as we get closer and closer to New Year's Eve so you can add last minute jams to your respective playlists.

LITTLE BITTY PRETTY ONE

This song just rules, straight up. Eventually, after playing it a million times, it'll remind you of something five years from now, as most music does, for me at least. Wherever you're going today, spread the holiday love with this song. I'm off to Miami, peace!

I'LL TRY ANYTHING ONCE

Thanks to Jesicola, I had the pleasure of enjoying this song six times in a row this morning. Off the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola's new film Somewhere, this Strokes song features Julian on keyboard, and as usual, flawless vocals. Enjoy, and bookmark Jessica's Miami based, tropical inspired blog Ropa Vieja. Feel free to buy the French film poster, shown below, signed by Sofia herself, available for 95 bucks at Opening Ceremony in the Ace Hotel.

BEST WEBSITE EVER

I just came across this website, and I can't decide if I'm stoked or scared. I tend to make my new year resolutions pre maturely instead of waiting for January 1st when I'm hungover as balls. And so, I've been hitting the gym and eating pretty healthy for the last two weeks. Until this website came along....It basically teaches you how to turn fast food shit into gourmet, fancy meals. It's obviously the presentation that changes, not the nutritional content. Either way, I'm reconsidering my quest in order to make some of these recipes. See for yourself right here it's truly genius.

LOVE AT FIRST LISTEN, LITERALLY

Not sure how great your memories are, but if it's not as obvious as I've semi-sort of made it, I sweat Ellie Goulding pretty hard. After posting the Rihanna cover (below) I decided to do a little more investigating and I fell upon, well....the most incredible cover. Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap is one of my favorite songs, period..Now I have the Ellie Goulding version of it, and consequently, so do you. Download asap, pretty please. Your welcome.

I LOVE VIOLINS

Lock me up in a room with a couple of violinists and you probably won't hear back from me. I'm a sucker for specific sounds, and while the piano, some horns, or a good acoustic guitar really set me off, the unmistakable call of a violin will always woo me most. This here is my girl Ellie Goulding, UK songstress, covering Rihanna's Only Girl in the World and while it's almost another song in itself, damn these violins are beautiful. Pay attention, please.

FUCK ALL YOU HOES, GET A GRIP

There's no excuse for not posting a song by duo jj for this long. Unlike any other act I've heard, they continue to awe me. Their latest release no. 2 is a powerful collection of tracks, some sampling from the most unordinary of places. This song goes well on any travel playlist. Whether you're on a 40 billion hour flight to Tokyo, going up a chairlift in Telluride, or in a zipcar roadtripping upstate, just add it.

I WANT THE WORLD TO STOP

One good thing about music, is when it hits, you can shazaam it. This one's a keeper, it's by Belle & Sebastian, and I think you and your friends will like it.

EYE CANDY

WAHLDURF AHSTOREEEYA

If you haven't seen Martin Scorsese's new documentary Public Speaking, which brilliantly taps into the career of American writer Fran Lebowitz, I suggest you finish reading this post, download the song that comes with it, then put your Macbook Pro down and go watch it on HBO. It's unbelievable. Lebowitz is on another level of human being and like me, you'll wish the documentary was seven hours longer. Most of the interview takes place at her infamous booth in The Waverly Inn, where she does most of the talking and Scorsese (along with the rest of the crew) does most of the laughing. Yes I know, Serge Gainsbourg (artist on this song) is a Frenchman, however this song resonated with me just as any New York anthem would. Since Lebowitz is the ultimate New Yorker, this song suits the documentary's end credits famously. See, I do make you cooler. Oh, and Lebowitz loves Marlboro lights more than anyone I've ever met. Enjoy.

PERFECT SONG PERIOD.

Lately Chinatown has been calling my name...Cold rainy nights on Canal means late night limo rides, half smoked marlboro lights, and my new favorite bar- Sweet Paradise. The Jameson is fresh, the crowd is just right, and the DJ's are my downtown heroes. Consider it my new Cheers, which only means it's definitely time to make friends. With everyone. On Orchard and Canal, don't tell your friends. This nostalgic track came home with me last night and I didn't kick her out this morning.

HEY CHAMP

Sometimes songs mysteriously appear on my desktop. Hard to keep track. Kinda like how many Amstel Lights I drink every time I DJ. So what who cares. (Steve, the manager does) Anyway this track is bomb and it sounds new, so from my hard drive to your iPod, here we go once again.

CUT COPY PASTE

Not sharing my music with you is like not wiping my buns after I poop. Uncomfortable, unsatisfying, just straight up not cool. Sorry for the hiatus. How many days off qualifies as a hiatus? Even though the velveteen has been idle, I, Todd Lewin, the man behind the retarded name, has not. I have tons of glorious tunes to share with you while you waste away in your New York apartment for the next three months. Let me layer you with winter music.
